The majority of U.S. career changers are more interested in following their career passions than in making more money, according to a recent survey by Money magazine and Salary.com.

 

 

The survey reached out to 12,000 workers and 164 companies. Nearly 60% of those surveyed said they had recently changed careers or were planning to do so.

 

 

What were career changers looking for? Younger workers said they most valued mental stimulation and advancement opportunities. Working parents were most interested in flexible schedules, while professionals over 50 prioritized both flexible schedules and engaging work.

 

 

This is just the latest in a series of surveys documenting a shift in attitudes about work. People spend a lot of time at work and they want their jobs to mean something.

 

Companies also benefit from employing more engaged workers who care about what they do. Almost half of the companies that responded to the survey said that they actively recruit career changers because they are more dedicated employees.
